Rwandan Diaspora

The Rwandan Diaspora can act as a catalyst in bringing innovation, and the best practices in different areas of public and private sectors.

About Diaspora in Japan

Rwanda uses the diaspora terms, ‘Rwandans living abroad ‘, or ‘Rwandan community abroad’ to refer to all Rwandans who left their country (whether involuntarily or voluntarily) and are willing to contribute to the development of Rwanda.

Currently, more than 70 diaspora are registered with the Embassy in Japan.

Diaspora in Japan are living all over the country: Nagasaki, Kobe, Hiroshima, Tokyo, Yokohama, Yamagata, Fukuoka, Tokushima, Saga, and Tsukuba. Most of them are international students who attend prominent universities in Japan and study hard to deepen their knowledge about their specialized field.

After graduating from school, many of them leave Japan to work in the public and private sectors in Rwanda or abroad. There are also some who remain here to work for Japanese companies.

As for the activities of Diaspora, they gather at kwibuka and Independence Day, which are national events sponsored by the Embassy.   Through participating in those events, they reconfirm their identity and deepen relationships.  From time to time, the Embassy participates in promotional events for tourism, agriculture, and culture, it appreciates their heartfelt support.
