Kwibuka 31 at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai
On May 8th, 2025, at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, Kwibuka 31 was commemorated with over 350 guests at the National Day Hall. The event featured a deeply moving testimony by Mr. Irakoze Claver, who courageously shared his painful personal history, shedding light on the enduring scars of the past and the remarkable resilience of survivors.
Dr. Bojana Coulibaly from Harvard University also delivered a compelling presentation on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. She explored its historical roots, long-term consequences, and the continuing impact on Rwanda's present. Her insights offered valuable context and emphasized the importance of remembrance.
Ambassador Mukasine expressed appreciation for the commemoration held at Expo Osaka, which concluded with a candle-lighting ceremony that united all the guests as one true group in remembrance at the Kwibuka.
It was a powerful and meaningful gathering, a poignant reminder of the need to confront history with honesty, empathy, and a commitment to justice.
