The 60th Anniversary of the Establishment of Bilateral Relations Between Rwanda and Japan
In July 2022, Rwanda and Japan will celebrate ”The 60th Anniversary of the Establishment of Bilateral Relations Between Rwanda and Japan”. To commemorate this occasion, the Embassy of Rwanda in Japan invited students of Tairadate High School, Hachimantai City, Iwate Prefecture, to submit a design proposal for a logo to be used for branding during celebration of this milestone anniversary during 2022.
Hachimantai was the host city for the Rwanda delegation to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and the students had deepened their understanding of Rwanda through an online cultural exchange project with the delegation. The students' design proposal for the logo is considered as a continuation of the Olympic legacy.
At the end of 2021, after a careful review of the entries by the Embassy with input from the Selection Committee, Rin Yoshida, a final year student at Tairadate High School was awarded the Grand Prize. In 2022, the Embassy of Rwanda and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Rwanda finalized the logo and design based on Yoshida's design.
The concept of the logo represents the bond between Rwanda and Japan, and depicts the two countries holding hands and wishing each other peace and prosperity. The sun signifies the unity of Rwanda and Japan.
