Umuganura 2026 Celebrated at the Embassy of Rwanda in Japan
On Saturday, August 22, the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in Japan hosted Umuganura 2026, bringing together members of the Rwandan community in Japan, friends of Rwanda, Embassy staff and their families for an afternoon of culture, gratitude, reflection and togetherness.
Rooted in Rwanda’s rich cultural heritage, Umuganura is a cherished tradition that celebrates the harvest and recognizes the collective efforts and achievements that contribute to the nation’s development. The celebration provided an opportunity for Rwandans and friends of Rwanda in Japan to come together, share this important cultural tradition, and reflect on Rwanda’s continued journey of progress and transformation.
As part of the Umuganura celebration, milk is traditionally shared with children as a symbol of generosity, care and abundance. This simple yet meaningful gesture reflects the values at the heart of Umuganura—sharing the fruits of collective efforts, caring for one another, and ensuring that the spirit of gratitude and prosperity is passed on to future generations.
During the gathering, the Ambassador engaged with members of the Rwandan community in Japan in a meaningful discussion on the significance of Umuganura, its cultural heritage and the values of gratitude, unity and community that it represents. The discussion also provided an opportunity to reflect on Rwanda’s continued progress and the important role of the Rwandan community in Japan in maintaining strong ties with their homeland and contributing to its development.
The Embassy extends its sincere appreciation to all members of the Rwandan community, friends of Rwanda, Embassy staff and their families for joining Umuganura 2026 and contributing to this meaningful celebration of Rwanda’s heritage, achievements and spirit of togetherness.
